Legal 3D Animations
Legal animation has become a standard trial support service in today’s simple and complex litigation cases.  What is 3D animation?  3D or three dimensional modeling refers to modeling objects that appear in a three-dimensional space which can allow objects to be rotated and viewed in realistic perspectives.  To animate means to put into motion. Legal 3D is the art of rendering models and animations in manners that help illustrate actions and scenarios to members of a jury.  It is very important to understand that there is a difference in a developer that has experience producing legal storylines with facts versus that of one who models 3D for other purposes such as advertising or print. A strong legal 3D developer will know how to show a jury the facts.  He or she will know when to slow down, when to speed up, when to freeze, when to cut, when to dissolve, when to fade in and when to fade out. Developing a legal 3D demonstrative for use in court with an expert’s testimony is another example of how 3D can help in lawsuits.

3D versus 2D.  What is the difference?  3D is widely used at NASA to recreate satellites and space structures and is used at trial for accident recreations, accident reconstruction, patent demonstratives, storytelling and much more.  Legal 2D graphics and animation are widely used for showcasing demonstratives that are not realistic. A pie chart, line chart, bar graph or blueprint would be a good example.  On a blueprint, you can typically only see from one perspective, the top.  In a 3D diagram, drawing or building blueprint, a legal 3D developer would be able to show the sides and insides of the drawing from any camera angle as well.

Legal 3D Accident Reconstruction
3D accident reconstruction can involve cars, trucks, 18 wheelers, motorcycles, planes, boats, tractors, plants, factories, play yards, grocery stores, etc.  A trial consultant or legal 3D developer can take the facts of a personal injury accident or personal injury incident, create a timeline and storyboard including the chain-of-events, and properly recreate that story using computer generate graphics. In today’s world, people are professionals at watching television. Many times, people see 3D models in commercials like car advertisements and never know that the models where created in 3D.  Showing defense or plaintiff counsel a legal 3D animation at mediation can also show opposing counsel that you have strong presentation skills and can illustrate important points in a very effective manner . . . and that you feel strong enough about a case to spend the extra expense on the legal 3D investment.
